InterNetX: .CO General Availability kicks off

The entrance of the new global domain extension .CO delivers new Internet branding opportunities.

REGENSBURG, GERMANY, July 21, 2010 /DotCom PR News/ -- The nifty .CO domain extension is about to enter the final phase of its launch. From July 20, 2010 onwards, .CO domain registration will be open to the general public. Domains can be registered via ten .CO accredited registrars located in North and South America - with the exception of InterNetX - the only .CO accredited registrar in Europe.

Having accompanied the introduction of several top TLDs, including .ASIA, .EU, .MOBI and .TEL, the German company has gained considerable experience in TLD launches and holds several registry accreditations for prominent TLDs around the globe, like .COM, .DE and .INFO. The internationally successful Internet Service Provider considers the launch of .CO to be of great significance to the domain business. The .CO TLD has already proven popular in the initial phases and has attracted high-profile attention. Twitter snatched www.t.co as part of the .CO Founder's Program and www.e.co sold for an impressive US$ 81,000 at a special auction in June.

Although officially designated to Colombia, .CO is a global domain extension that is open to registrants worldwide. It is considered by domain experts to hold enormous international branding potential. As an established prefix and abbreviation in many languages, .CO stands as a word and concept in its own right, globally associated with several strong and diverse meanings. "Try compiling a list of words starting with .CO," remarks Hakan Ali, Marketing and Sales Director at InterNetX. "It's likely to be an extremely long list. Related to powerful concepts like company, commerce, communication, connection, community and hundreds more, .CO offers unlimited possibilities for online branding."

In keeping with international best practice, the .CO registry is allocating domains under a very liberal registration policy. Starting July 20, 2010 at 20:00 (CEST), anyone anywhere can register domains without any time-consuming red tape.

To qualify for registration, domain names must contain between 3 and 63 characters (without the TLD) and the first and last character must be a letter or number. Spanish IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names) including á, e, í, ó, ú, ñ, ü are supported. The .CO domains will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
